One book: Here is New York by E.B. White
One action in this city can change everything. - SM
I read this at a very tough time. I hated this city. The winter broke me. - NP
Being away made me miss the city. Walking away rejuvenated me a little bit. I don’t think the winter was that bad. - KM
You can feel different emotions really close together. - SM
This spoke to me: “New York is peculiarly constructed to absorb almost anything that comes along (whether a thousand-foot liner out of the East or a twenty-thousand-man convention out of the West) without inflicting the event on its inhabitants; so that every event is, in a sense, optional, and the inhabitant is in the happy position of being able to choose his spectacle and so conserve his soul.” - JR

"I’d run home and play dead. The next day I would call all the newspapers and make sure they wrote about me in all the dead columns."
